Global Youth Tongji Declaration Called for Sustainable Consumption and Production ——International Student Conference on Environment and Sustainability 2016 Closed in Tongji University

On June 8th, centering on “Sustainable Consumption and Production”, the International Student Conference on Environment and Sustainability 2016, co-hosted by the United Nations Environment Programme(UNEP), Tongji University, Xinhua News Agency and Beijing Environment Foundation for Young Talents, concluded in Tongji University where around 300 youth students from 30 countries and regions jointly made the announcement of Global Youth Tongji Announcement.

The Declaration said that the significance of climate change adaptation, carbon emission control and green lifestyle stands out, especially against the background that the Sustainable Development Goals are passed and countries have reached the Paris Agreement. The youth adopted this year’s theme “Sustainable Consumption and Production” as a guiding principle for daily lives, and ready to be the example and commit to a life of environmental protection and sustainable development.

On the closing ceremony, Prof. Wu Jiang, Executive Vice President of Tongji University, and Anna, Vice Party Secretary General of the College of Environmental Science and Engineering, Tongji University, represented attendees to award such prizes as Best Poster Prize”、“Best Speech Prize and Best Thesis Prizein order to encourage youth students to continue to pay attention to environment and sustainability and enjoy a green lifestyle.

These awards were presented to those who stood out in such activities as group discussionsreports and poster making, elected by students from groups of energy transition and climate change, eco-city, ecosystem and wildlife, and green lifestyle.

During the six-day conference, the participants took part in series of reports and debates, universities students sustainable development project report, exhibitions, summit, dialogues and on-site visits.
