Renewed 2024-2026 Agreement for SD Chair

On April 3, 2024, Prof. Peiming Lyu, Executive Vice President of Tongji University, and Ms. Holly Lei, President of Covestro China signed a renewal agreement for the Covestro-Tongji Sustainable Development Chair 2024-2026. 


Andre Rittermeier, Head of Covestro Group Innovation & Sustainability, Julia Xiang, Head of Corporate Communication, Alex YU, Global Circular Economy Manager, Siyan Qing, Innovation Manager, Matthew Chen, Strategic Marketing Manager in Business Entity of Engineering Plastic. And Prof. Shijin Feng, Director of Tongji University's Office of Research Administration, Prof. Wen Yin, Director of Office of International Exchange and Cooperation, Prof. Liming Cai, Vice Dean of Sino-German College, Professor of School of Automotive Studies, Prof. Jan Harder, Vice Dean of Sino-German College, and Prof. Ying Wang, Vice Dean of IESD, Vice Dean of College of Environmental Science and Engineering, attended the ceremony.


At the ceremony, Ms. Holly Lei reiterated the company's dedication to sustainable development education and cutting-edge research. Building on the successful 17-year partnership, Covestro pledged to increase investment in the Chair, empowering Tongji University with even greater resources to advance the adoption of sustainable development principles.

Prof. Peiming Lyu underscored the Chair's remarkable achievements, highlighting that the that the Chair has always been committed to improving the level of education, research, and cooperation in the field of environmental sciences, a number of research were carried out on the topics of circular economy, climate change, and waste-free cities, deepened the Sino-German college -enterprise cooperation model, and established a model of science-policy-business cooperation for sustainable development. Tongji University joins forces with Covestro to deepen multi-dimensional industry-university-research collaboration. This partnership will empower the development of environmentally conscious and innovative talent, propelling progress toward a sustainable future.


The signing of a new round of Covestro-Tongji Chair for Sustainable Development invigorates the Tongji University-Covestro collaboration. Looking ahead, both parties pledge to deepen their partnership, exploring new avenues for sustainable development. By leveraging mutual advantages and resources, the two parties will enhance collaboration in research, education, and talent development, ultimately propelling global progress toward a sustainable future.


The Covestro-Tongji Chair for Sustainable Development was formerly known as the Bayer-Tongji Chair for Sustainable Development, established by Bayer Group and Tongji University in 2007 to promote education, research, and cooperation in the field of environmental sustainability. In September 2015, the chair renamed to Covestro-Tongji Chair for Sustainable Development, focusing on research, education and public awareness.
