As a leading international banking corporation, HSBC expressed strong interests in cooperating with IESD to run a leadership program on sustainable development, targeting the less developed areas of China. It was agreed that this leadership program is to be run twice a year, each lasts three days. The first IESD-HSBC Leadership Program was held at IESD during 12~14 April, 2006. Twenty five participants  from local Environmental Protection Bureaus (EPBs) and environmental institutions attended the program. World renowned environmentalists, Mr. Maurice F. Strong and Mr. Geping Qu, delivered lectures. Professors from IESD presented lectures on the topics of urban planning, green transportation, circular economy and environmental friendly development in China. The participants had a good chance to communicate and exchange experiences and lessons on the experimentation of sustainable development in China.
