Sept 18th , on the opening ceremony of 3rd “the Asia-Pacific leadership programme on sustainable development, the “environment management and sustainable development”international master porgramme opened officially. Meanwhile, North-east youth environment forum and Decade meeting for sustainable education in Asia-Pacific   opened. President Gan Wan addressed on the ceremony, Mr Surendra Shrestha , the director of UNEP-ROAP attended the ceremony and given a welcome speech. The ceremony is chaired by Prof. Jianfu Zhao, Vice president of Tongji and Dean of IESD.

According to the introduction, the international master programme is an innovative action on environment management education in China, the first 15 students comes from the Asia-Pacific region mainly, focus on developing countries. Students come from Samoan , Thailand ,Mongolia, Turkmenistan, China and other countries.   The course will be offered in English and last for 2 years of 1 year in Tongji another year or half in the Coliation Universities doing research or take intern in UNEP. The resource persons comes from the coliation universities focus Tongji as core which including New South Wales University, Grififs University, Wolonggang University in Australia, Nanyang Technological University, Asia Institute of Technology and Yale University. After finishing required study, students can obtain the diploma given by Tongji University and certificate given by UNEP. 

Vice president, Prof. Jianfu Zhao told us that the international master porgramme on environment management is the practice of DESD (decade education of sustainable development) of UN. Tongji will utilize advantages on environment subjects , try to educate students those major in non-environment related. Tongji will improve courses related to “circle economy”,”ecological industry”and so on further more. Thus, making more and more students know the idea of sustainable development.

Meanwhile, More than 50 young students come from China, the South Korea, Japan, Mongolia etc. will start discussion focus on desertification some environment issues such as in Tongji.
