The award ceremony of 2009 Klaus Toepfer Environmental Scholarship was held in the college of environmental science and technology on May 20th for the first time. This scholarship was established by the former UN deputy secretary-general, the former deputy executive director of the UNEP, the chief professor of UNEP-IESD, Klaus Toepfer.10 excellent undergraduates from 10 domestic universities won this honor. Our vice President, Wu Jiang , Prof. Klaus Toepfer attended the award ceremony and awarded the winners. In his speech, Prof. Wu Jiang thanked Prof. Klaus Toepfer for his great contribution to the institute of environment for sustainable development.

Prof. Klaus Toepfer commits to environmental protection and sustainable development and pay great attention to the education on sustainable development of university and college. In order to promote China's environmental education, he donated 100 million yuan in November 2007 to establish the scholarships fund in China, aiming to raise more social donation, to encourage the China youth and to contribute to solve the increasingly outstanding global environmental problems.

According to the introduction, since the start of scholarship award on April, the committee received more than 170 applications from national universities undergraduates. Comprehensive evaluation included grades, scientific research and social work. Finally ten applicants became prize winners.
