The opening ceremony of 3rd Summer School was held in the hall of Mingjing Building in Environmental Science and Engineering College, Tongji University in the morning on July 20th, 2009. The theme is “Sustainable Use of Natural Resources: The Advanced Wastewater Treatment”. Prof. Dr. Zhou Qi, the president of Environmental Science and Engineering College, Tongji University, and the distinguish guest from the committee EMB of Shanghai, and Prof. Dr. Guenter SUBKLEW from the Research Center Juelich of Germany attended the ceremony and delivered speeches. Summer School has been successfully held twice, as an activity to enhance the academic exchanges among young scientific researchers in different countries. The first and second Summer School were held in the Research Center Juelich, German and Tongji University, China, respectively, which attracted 60 students from China, Africa and the German, also caused a lot of repercussions. This Summer School is supported by the Key Laboratory of the Yangtze River Water Environment Education Department, gives full play to the advantages of Environmental Science and Engineering College, Tongji University in the field of water environment research, and the theme is set “Sustainable Use of Natural Resources: The Advanced Wastewater Treatment”. The Ph.D participants are from not only China, Africa and Germany, but also Japan, Korea and America. The theme of this event is "Sustainable Use of Natural Resource:The Advanced Waste Water Treatment".It is going to discuss the latest water treatment technologies and research achievments,such as resource store of worldwide natural water,use of artificial wetland on controlling water pollution,treatment of groundwater and so on.Furthermore,the host have also invited many specialists on water treatment.They will have a further discusion on enviromental problems,which many developing and developed countries are facing with.The aim of the event is to enhance international communication and cooperation and to persuit common progress. The Summer School begins on 19th and ends on 26th July.During the school,participants will have lectures from professors from home and abroad.They will also visit "Yang Shu Pu" Company,"Meng Qing Yuan" Wetland Park and Chongming Island ,and get an overview of the lastest process and research achievments of waste water treatment from China and the world.
