Professorial Position Announcement
UNEP-Tongji Institute of Environment for Sustainable Development (IESD) was established in May 2002 jointly by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and Tongji University. IESD was founded within the College of Environmental Science and Engineering and other colleges of Tongji University, and is supported directly by UNEP and the Regional University Consortium. IESD has organized a number of international leadership programs on environment for sustainable development; has enrolled 4 batches of Master’s Degree students (with coursework taught in English) in Environmental Management and Sustainable Development; has enrolled doctoral students since 2008; and has attained significant research accomplishments in the areas of climate change, energy and carbon emission reduction, eco-city development, strategic environmental assessment, green accounting, water resource management and wastewater reuse. IESD is currently the only entity in the world with direct cooperation of UNEP with universities, and is also an important window for exchanging the experience and expertise of China in the field of sustainable development.
Based on the global needs of development, agreed by UNEP, IESD is to set up several professorial positions to promote education and research on environmental management and sustainable development. Applicants are invited for this UNEP-Tongji Professorship in at least one of the fields listed in the following:
Discipline: Environmental Science
Position: UNEP-Tongji Professor in IESD
Fields: Climate change and response, energy policy and utilization, low carbon economy, water resource management, sustainable urbanization, environmental policy and management
Duty: Teach in English, supervise international students, and research in at least one of the above fields.
Period: Three years after the contract is signed.
Benefit: A full time professor will be given the title of Chair Professor of UNEP-Tongji Institute of Environment for Sustainable Development, will be provided 500,000 RMB for settlement, and a subsidy of 200,000 RMB/year in addition to the salary of Tongji University. A part time professor will also obtain a special offer based on mutual agreement between parties.
Requirements:
Applicants should have at least five years of research experience or teaching experience in well-known universities or research institutes in China or abroad; should be able to teach with fluent English and write reports in English. In the past 3 years, the applicant should have published, as the first author, at least 5 articles/papers in internationally recognized journals and/or influential reports on environmental policies. Applicants should submit C.V., copies of publications, as well as a work plan on teaching and research.
Post Doctoral Position Announcement
Applications are also invited for postdoctoral positions at IESD. The applicants must possess a Ph.D degree from a well recognized university or research institute in China or abroad. The candidates should have excellent command of oral and written English language. In the past 2 years, as the first author, the applicant should have published at least 2 papers in internationally well known journals, and/or been the main author of reports that have significant impacts on environmental policies of China. Applicants should submit C.V., copies of publications, as well as a work plan. Successful candidates will also receive a highly competitive salary fitting to their qualifications and experience. According to the need and situation, successful candidates may have the opportunity to intern at UNEP offices. Respective to research interests, the advisory professors include Jiang Wu, Qi Zhou, Jianfu Zhao, Dahe Jiang, Xiaohong Chen, Pinjing He, Dajian Zhu, and Fengting Li etc.
