The 6th Asia-Pacific Leadership Programme on Environment for Sustainable Development was successfully convened in IESD from 16 to 21 November 2009, with 24 participants from 14 countries in Asia and the Pacific area. This year’s Leadership Programme was meaningful with diverse associated events.
On the opening ceremony, organizers of the Leadership Programme presented the conceptual framework of the Programme, followed by an ice break of participant presentations. The field trip on 17th included a tour to Shanghai Urban Planning Exhibition Center, and Shikumen, the 1933 Old Millfun which provided the participants an opportunity to experience the urban development of Shanghai.
In the following sessions that focus on mind, body and soul in relation to city and sustainable development was presented in the form of foundation lecture, panel discussion and interactive case study. In the environment dimension, lectures on environmental protection including air, water and soil was presented. Then was the sustainable dimension which consisted of social, economic and environmental parts. The organizers and the participants presented a summary to synthesize the outcomes and recommendations for the future programs on 21st.
At the closing banquet, the participants received certificates from Mr. Mahesh Pradhan, Environmental Affairs Officer of Regional Office for Asia-Pacific and Prof. Fengting LI, Deputy Dean of IESD.
