The opening ceremony of 1st Sino-Danish Joint Conference on Sustainable Environmental Engineering, which was co-organized by the College of Environmental Science and Engineering at Tongji University, Department of Environmental Science & Engineering at Tsinghua University, and Department of Environmental Engineering at Technical University of Denmark (TUD), was held in Room 121, Mingjing Building, Tongji University on May 20th, 2010.
    The purpose of the conference is to understand mutual needs in society for engineering solutions better, share knowledge and discuss strategic solutions in the area of environmental engineering, identify scientific and business potential chances between the two countries and strengthen the ongoing cooperation and professional networking, especially focused on environmental engineering and sustainable development. The plenary lecturers include Prof. Mogens Henze and Prof. Thomas Højlund Christensen from TUD, Prof. Qian Yi from Tsinghua University and Prof. Per Halkjær from Aalborg University. The main topics involve the improvement of conventional environmental engineering technologies, novel and sustainable environmental process, environmental engineering and global warming and education of a sustainable environmental engineering curriculum.
The opening ceremony was chaired by Prof. Li Fengting, Vice Dean of College of Environmental Science and Engineering. Zhou Qi, Dean of College of Environmental Science and Engineering, Xing Jijun, Director of Europe Division from MoST, Fu Guoqing, from Science and Technology Commission of Shanghai Municipality and Anders Kjar, from Science and Technology Consul, Innovation Center Denmark, Shanghai have respectively  given welcome addresses. After the ceremony, Qian Yi, Professor of Tsinghua University and Member of China Academy of Engineering, and Mogens Henze, Head of Department of Environmental Engineering, Technical University of Denmark, have addressed excellent speeches in the morning.
The Sino-Danish Conference on Sustainable Environmental Engineering had a far-reaching significance, which not only provided an excellent platform for the experts and scholars to communicate with each other deeply, but also promoted the sustainable development in the field of environmental engineering. In the following days, the experts will visit Shanghai Bailonggang sewage treatment plant and Shanghai Expo Park.
During the conference, Zhou Qi, Dean of College of Environmental Science and Engineering, has awarded the advisory professorship of Tongji University to Prof. Mogens Henze.
