On the evening of Jan 14th 2011, two members of COP16 Sino-French Tongji University Observer Group, Shuyi CHEN and Qingqing LI held a communication meeting at the Rm 109 of Mingjing Building. The theme of this vivid activity is “Participation and Impression of COP 16”. CHEN and LI are master students, majoring in Environmental Science. Last month, with 3 other French girls, majoring in Economic Management, they attended the international Climate Change Talk in Cancun, Mexico. As the first formal propagandizing lecture, they aimed to share their first-hand experience with other students in Tongji. Besides, they attempted to attract more attention to the global environmental diplomatic conditions.
During the 2-hour’s meeting, LI briefly introduced the background of COP16 and different voices from various countries; meanwhile, CHEN picked several hot topics in Cancun summit and analyzed their own opinions. After the two excellent orientations, the topic, Japanese negative attitude to the extension of Kyoto Protocol, became the focus. Even some audience joined in the intense discussion. One of the students, Phil, an IESD master from USA, also proposed some American official attitude to this issue. Thanks to the in-depth idea sharing, both the two lecturers and the audience acquired more information.
CHEN and LI indicated that they will take more such lectures in the next semester. “Since on one hand, lectures can draw people’s eyes on global climate change talks under UNFCCC, on the other hand, meaningful discussion will help us understand the mechanism deeper,” CHEN said.
