The workshop on Urbanization, Ecosystem and Water Management of African Cities Surveys was held at UNEP (United Nations Environment Programme) headquarter in Nairobi, Kenya on 17-18 February 2011, which was organized by UNEP-Tongji Institute of Environment for Sustainable Development (IESD), Tongji University. Professors from Tongji University, UNEP, UNEP Grid Arendal, UN-Habitat and member institutions of the Global Universities Partnership on Environment and Sustainability (GUPES) participated in this workshop with the aim of reviewing the surveys and selecting those that will be included in the final publication titled “An Ecosystem Approach to Water Resources Management for African Cities” to be launched at the World Water Day on 22 March 2011 in Cape Town, South Africa. In this workshop, Prof. LI Fengting from Tongji University presented a study case of water challenge in Shanghai, which attracted great attention from African experts. It will promote the further cooperation between China and Africa in environment and water resources management.
