Stockholm+40 - Partnership Forum for Sustainable Development

From April 19-20, Prof. Li Fengting, Vice Dean of UNEP-Tongji Institute of Environment for Sustainable Development (IESD) and Ms. Yang Yanyun attended the Stockholm+40 - Partnership Forum for Sustainable Development in Sweden. It co-hosted by Swedish Ministry of the Environment and the Department for International Development, which aims to commemorate the 40th anniversary of “United Nations Human Environment Conference” in 1972, Stockholm. Participants are from government agencies, NOGs, education institutes, social groups and youth representatives to propose comments and suggestions on global sustainable development issues, and the final action programme will submit to “Rio+20 Conference” for discussion.  Mr. Sha Zukang, Deputy Secretary-General of UN, the President of UN Rio Conference, and Mr. Achim Steiner, Deputy Secretary-General of UN, Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) attended this forum; meanwhile, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao led a delegation to attend the ministerial segment of the forum. 

 

In addition, during the forum, IESD representatives also participated the discussion on “education for sustainable development” and “sustainable urban development”, which introduced the practice activities of Tongji University and IESD in sustainable development education and Shanghai urban construction to other participants, respectively.
