Tongji Delegation Attended 2012 Student Environmental Summit in Swiss

The 5th World Student Environmental Summit (WSES) was held from September 5th to 8th, 2012, in the University of Lausanne (UNIL). LI Yuehan, a postgraduate student of College of Environmental Science and Engineering, UNEP-Tongji Institute of Environment for Sustainable Development (IESD), and GUO Wenrui, a senior student of College of Environment Science and Engineering attended this summit as student representatives from Tongji University.

The general concept for the summit “Change” attracted the participation of representatives of more than 80 students all over the world. A variety of workshops on Empowerment, Individual Change and University Change were held. Some world-renowned professors in the field of sustainable development gave speeches for the delegates, such as Mr. Jamie AGOMBAR, the Ethical and Environmental Manager at the National Union of Students UK (NUS) and Mr. SHENG Fulai, an economist at the United Nation’s Environment Programme’s Economics and Trade Branch (UNEP-ETB).

 

During the summit, the delegates also visited Palais des Nations, the United Nations Headquarters in Geneva and listened to lectures on green economy and the role of youth in the international level.

Two representatives of Tongji actively participated in the discussions and showed the practical results of Tongji University on green campus and leadership of sustainable development, which was highly appreciated by the organizers and representatives of other international students.
