The International Training Program (ITP) on “Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) in Higher Education”, Phase 4 – Regional Programme in Asia was launched at UNEP-Tongji Institute of Environment for Sustainable Development (UNEP-IESD) in the morning of October 29, 2012.
Professor Fengting LI, Deputy Dean of IESD, and Dr. Wanhua YANG from UNEP made welcome remarks. Professor Dajian ZHU introduced the frontiers of global sustainable development and Ms. Huimin TZENG made a speech on “Bayer and Sustainable Development.”
This program is financed by Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida), and implemented by IESD in cooperation with Niras Natura AB. The fourth phase of this program, which will be held in IESD from October 26th to November 8, 2012, attracts 31 trainees from the education sectors of six Asian countries, which are Bangladesh, Cambodia, India, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia and China.
The goal of this program is to complete a “change project” by each participant. Therefore, the progress of change projects will be updated and experts in different areas will give further guidance and advice. The programme invited prominent scholars from Tongji University in the area of sustainable development and relevant fields, including Professor Dahe JIANG, Professor Dajian ZHU, Professor Qingsong RUAN, Professor Hongwei TAN, etc. The program will last for two weeks, during which time field trips to Suzhou Industrial Park and Tongli will be arranged for the participants to learn the eco-planning condition in China.
