An ‘International Seminar on Strengthening South-South Cooperation on Science and Technology to Address Climate Change & Technical Training’ was held on 10-12 November 2012 in Guangzhou, China. The Seminar was cohosted by Ministry of Science and Technology (PRC), Ministry of Commerce (PRC), UNDP, UNEP, UNESCO and UNIDO and was co-organized by China Science and Technology Exchange Center, Guangdong Science and Technology Exchange Center, China Foreign Trade Guangzhou Exhibition General Corporation and China International Center for Economic and Technical Exchanges. It was supported by AusAID and Beijing Institute of Technology.
The seminar was mainly focus on the cooperation between China and different African countries. It fostered about the dissemination and deployment of many green technologies in the field of water, agriculture, forestry, energy conservation and emission reduction, adapting to climate change and raising people livelihoods in developing countries. Experts and guest from China and many developing countries and institutions participated and exchanged their experiences and views on different aspects of climate change issues and south-south cooperation.
Professors and students from UNEP-Tongji Institute of Environment for Sustainable Development participated in conference. They were also involved in case study of different African Projects as part of South-South cooperation. Professor Fengting Li chaired a session named ‘Applicable Technology to Address Climate Change and Technology Transfer Mechanism under the Framework of South-South Cooperation’. Students from UNEP- Tongji also actively participated in the discussion session. Dr Wang Hong Tao and Haixing Meng also presented papers in the conference.
