The First Universal Session of the Governing Council/Global Ministerial Environment Forum of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) entered its fourth day at the United Nations Office in Nairobi, Kenya. The Committee of the Whole (COW) convened to report back on working groups, approve draft decisions and adopt the report and conclusion of the work of the committee. Other events included the launch of the Africa Environment Outlook, a UNEP publication addressing key environmental risks for human health, and a press conference appointing singing sensations Eric Wainaina and Suzanna Owiyo as Kenyan Goodwill Ambassadors.

Two side events have been held on the topics of "Strengthening the human rights and environment nexus for sustainable development" and the "Presentation of a road map on the process of the establishment of an instrument on the application of principle 10 in Latin America and the Caribbean". The first side event aimed at sensitizing the audience on the importance and practical significance of the linkages between human rights and the environment, and also mainstreaming it into environment policy making. The second side event informed governments and major groups and stakeholders about the Latin America and the Caribbean Process and a regional instrument on Principle 10 of the Rio Declaration from 1992, with a view to encourage relevant governments to sign the Declaration and to participate in the process.

In the afternoon, the student observers from Tongji University have been interviewed by the Xinhua News Agency in Nairobi. All the students expressed their opinions and understandings about participation in this conference and answered the questions about the role of the Tongji delegation in this conference. Xinhua News Agency also made a propaganda video on the conference with Tongji students.
