On August 19, 2013, College of Environment Science and Engineering (CESE), Tongji University and UNEP-Tongji Institute of Environment for Sustainable Development (UNEP-IESD) organized students to visit Kyushu University, Fukuoka, Japan, to participate in an eight-day summer school. After 2 hours’ flight, 14 students from CESE and College of Civil Engineering arrived in Fukuoka and were warmly welcomed by Prof. Shimaoka, Dean of Research Institute for East Asia Environments, and some students from Kyushu University.
In this event, the students stayed in the Ito Campus and the Hakosaki Campus of Kyushu University, were given a lecture by the professor there and visited the lab and the wastewater recycling system factory of Kyushu University, the famous Fukuoka desalination plant, the Rinkai Refuse Incineration Plant and the Eco-town of KitaKyushu City. On the final day, students gave wonderful presentations.
After that, 3 teachers and 10 students from Kyushu University in Japan came to Shanghai after the event and continued to visit Shanghai Laogang Landfill plant and other industrial plants. Students participated in thought highly of this summer school and this will enhance the academic and cultural exchange between Tongji and Kyushu University.
