Tongji Delegation Attended 2013 World Student Environmental Summit

2013 World Student Environmental Summit was held from September 15th to 20th, 2013 in Leuphana University, Lüneburg, Germany. Mr Fu Yuguang from College of Civil Engineering and Ms Ji Tingting from College of Environment Science and Engineering attended this summit as student representatives from Tongji University. They have exchanged their ideas of sustainability with other delegates from different countries, displayed the sustainable campus demonstration projects in Tongji University and expressed their innovations about sustainable development, which won the applauses from sponsors and other representatives.

 

The first World Student Environmental Summit was held in 2008, Japan. Hereafter, it has been held in several countries, such as Canada, Switzerland and Germany. It is the sixth summit this year in Lüneburg. The general concept for the summit “University Acting for Sustainability” attracted the participation of representatives of almost 80 students from 26 countries around the world. The host, Leuphana University, is the first college which offers professional degrees of sustainability. The other 36 universities which attended this summit have also made great contributions towards the sustainable development. Meanwhile, this summit is a great transdisciplinary collision of representatives who major in different fields but all have unique ideas about sustainability.

 

During the summit, several world-renowned professors in the field of sustainable development gave speeches for the delegates. Various activities are held, such as post presentation, lectures, workshops, as well as some novel programs, like running dinner and elevator pitch. Moreover, the delegates visited Lüneburg town and Hafen City in Hamburg and experienced the advanced sustainable development in Germany.
