From 21th to 26th October 2013, IESD was pleased to have lectures about Environment Management and Sustainable Development by Dr. Marion Cheatle, a specialist in environmental assessment, monitoring and reporting, who had worked for UNEP as the former Deputy Director of the Division of Early Warning and Assessment.

In her long honorable career, Dr. Marion has played a key role in establishment of a global participatory assessment process, capacity building of collaborating institutions, and coordination of UNEP’s contributions to the World Resources Report. She has also contributed immensely to the planning and establishment of the Global Terrestrial Observing System (GTOS), by developing assessment frameworks, methodologies and tools in collaboration with partner organizations. And her lectures focused on the integrated environment assessment (IEA), using cases mainly from her own work experience, like Globe Environment Outlook published by UNEP and DPSIR (Driver, Pressure, State, Impact, Responds) analytical framework. At the end of the lectures, the students were divided into groups to do a DPSIR model to analyze an environmental issue by group interest and made a poster to present to the class.

This workshop is a part of the Environment System and Sustainable Development course, and several workshops held by other scholars will be followed.
