On 25 December 2013, Prof Lam Kin Che from the Chinese University of Hong Kong gave a lecture at IESD. Prof Lam’s lecture was on Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA), where he introduced the concept to the students and staff in attendance. He then gave a number of interesting case studies where SEA had been successfully used, as well as making recommendations on where and how SEA can be used so as to realize sustainable development.

Prof. Lam is a distinguished scholar who has numerous publications to his name. His research interests are in Environmental Impact Assessment/SEA, noise assessment, mapping and planning, soundscape and soundscape design, as well as environmental policy and governance. Currently, he is a Professor in the Faculty of Geography and Resource Management at The Chinese University of Hong Kong where he teaches in the fields of Environmental Management, Urban Environmental Problems and Environmental Planning. He is also a consultant for a number of international and multinational organizations and institutions.
