On April 18, 2014, Prof. Mario Tabucanon fromthe United Nations University Institute for the Advanced Study ofSustainability (UNU-IAS) visited the UNEP-Tongji Institute of Environment forSustainable Development (IESD) and the meeting for the 2014 ProSPER.Net YoungResearchers' School organizing was held between UNU-IAS and IESD.

As the main founding membership of Promotion ofSustainability in Postgraduate Education and Research Network(ProSPER.Net),Tongji University has always positively participated in and supported the YoungResearchers' School programme which stared in 2010 and has been successfullyheld 4 times annually in membership university. The fifth ProSPER.Net YoungResearchers' School will be hosted by Tongji university during 15-26 September2014 under the theme of “Urban Planning for Sustainable Development: WaterResources and Ecosytem Management”. There will be 15-20 PhD student selectedfrom the ProSPER.Net membership universities attending this year’s summerschool, through lectures, filed trip, 3-minute thesis competition and groupdiscussion, to share and discuss the new topics and ideas on the mainchallenges in sustainability faced by the whole world.

The main goal of the Young Researchers’ School(YRS) is to provide graduate students and young post‐doctoral researchers with an opportunity tobetter understand the spectrum of challenges that underpin sustainabledevelopment. By assembling these young scientists together for an intensive two-weekworkshop, the school fosters the growth of a network of sustainability scholarsand professionals in the Asia‐Pacific region.

It is worth mentioning that 2014 Asia-PacificLeadership Program on Environment for Sustainable Development which to be heldduring 21-26 September, 2014 will be held at the same period with this year’ssummer school, providing more chance for ideas sharing between the participantsfrom different organizations related to sustainable development.

After the meeting with IESD, Prof. MarioTabucanon had a visit to School of Economics and Management and the GreenConstruction and New Energy Research Center on the ProSPER.Net joint programsconstruction.
