IESD students(2014)-with Mahesh Pradhan (UNEP) and Dr FANG
On Friday afternoon, September 24th, the UNEP officer Mahesh Pradhan came to IESD students’ Ecosystems
Management class and delivered a speech about UNEP and APLP (Asia-Pacific Leadership Programme)--the
theme of APLP 2014 is Ecosystems Management and Sustainable Development. He provided the IESD Masters
students an overview of latest global environmental developments, including UNEA, SDGs and ESD, as well as
highlighted relevant areas that might be of interest for their research in line with UNEP’s seven thematic priorities,
namely: Climate Change, Ecosystems Management, Disasters and Conflicts, Environmental Governance, Toxic
Chemicals and Wastes, Resource Efficiency and Environmental Review.
IESD students showed great interests in Mr. Pradhan’s speech, and they raised plenty of questions and got further
communication with Mr. Pradhan. The students thought that it was a proper opportunity to understand UNEP by
face-to-face communicating with UNEP Officers. “At the beginning, I didn’t know the goals of IESD class setting,
now I can see that the major classes from IESD are all of great importance, our curriculum field are the same with
those projects done by UNEP ”, a student from IESD said.
In the end, Mahesh Pradhan, Dr. Fang Ping and all students took a group picture.
