Tongji to host Workshop on Water resources Management and Water Treatment on Pla...

The level of technology and economy formost African countries result in lack of basic waste and water treatmentfacilities and network infrastructure, outdated and poorly-maintained wastetreatment technologies and shortage of technical and management capabilitywhich ultimately lead to the discharge of untreated or partially treated urbanand industrial wastewater to the water environment.

 

In order to prevent the continueddeterioration of water quality of the water resources and improve the status ofwater and wastewater treatment and network infrastructure, there is an urgentneed to provide cost-effective suitable technology, upgrade and integrateexisting technologies, improve treatment efficiency and capacity building fortechnical and management capability.

 

With more than thirty years of reform andopening, the rapid rise of technology and economic development in China hasresulted in the significant progress of environmental protection. China hasgradually become the world’s largest environmental market.

 

As a developing country, China had similarenvironmental problems facing many African and other developing countries atpresent. Therefore, China has the relevant experience and environmentalprotection technologies to contribute significantly to the strengthening ofSino-Africa wastewater treatment technology transfer and service in the form ofinformation exchange, project, technical and business cooperation, developmentof advanced wastewater treatment and assistance in the construction ofecological environment in Africa according to its location and regionaladvantages. This workshop is aimed at improving the capacity building ofprofessionals in water resources management and water treatment in Africancountries through South-South cooperation. With the support of UNEP,UN-Habitat, Ministry of Science and Technology of China, Center of CooperativeInnovation for Clean Water and UNEP-TONGJI Institute of Environment forSustainable Development, this workshop is expected to improve the knowledge andskills of the participants by intensive courses, field visit, demonstration andhand-on training.
