23March, “Green City and Sustainable Development – Water Resources Management andWater Treatment” workshop was held in Tongji University, with representativesfrom China and African countries as participants.
Thisworkshop is a segment for the Workshop on Planning for Greener Cities andSouth-South Cooperation in Africa. The workshop aims to strengtheningSino-Africa wastewater treatment technology transfer and service in the form ofinformation exchange, project, technical and business cooperation, developingadvanced wastewater treatment and assistance in the construction ofecological environment in Africa according to its location and regionaladvantages, as well as sharing the experience from both sides to boost furthercooperation.
Inthe workshop, experts from Tongji University gave several lectures to Africanrepresentatives, and led them to field tours in facilities like drinking watertreatment company and waste water treatment factory in Shanghai, Kunshan andWuxi.
Thisworkshop is hosted by UNEP, UN-Habitat and Tongji University, with the supportfrom Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology. UNEP-Tongji Institute ofEnvironment for Sustainable Development and Collaborative Innovation Center forClean Water organize the workshop. This workshop saw 8 representives from 6different African countries.
Representativesfrom Kenyan, Zambia, Sudan, Tanzania, Malawi, and Uganda, experts from TongjiUniversity, researcher from Chinese Academy of Sciences and representitivesfrom Shanghai Water Authority attended the workshop.
