On June.2nd, “2015 International StudentConference on Environment and Sustainability”, co-hosted by Tongji University,United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and Xinhua, will be launched inTongji University (Siping campus). All of the Tongji students, teachers andstaff are very welcome to join!
As a core event, “City and Nature”summit will be held on June.5th. The UN Assistant-Secretary–General, Deputy Executive Director of UNEP, Mr. Ibrahim Thiaw, Leader of Tongji University, Yang Xianjin, and Vice President of TongjiUniversity Prof. Wu Jiang and Prof. Jiang Bo will give opening remarks andkeynote speeches at the summit.
“UNEPWorld Environment Day Celebrity Special Event” will also be held on that day.Jiang Bo, vice president of Tongji University and Zhu Yawen, a renowned young actor will share their uniqueunderstanding of green life style with the attendees and participate in theinteractive event ”Leaf Print”.
This year, underthe background of practicing green, sustainable development, new mode ofurbanization and “sustainable productionand consumption”, which is the theme of World Environment Day, the conference haschosen ”City and Nature” as the theme and included “Education in Sustainable Developmentand UN”, “Sustainable Cities”, ”Ecosystems and Climate Change” and “Green LifeStyle” as subtopics. Therefore, students of different academic specialty and various backgrounds are able toparticipate in different parts of the conference according to what they arestudying and are interested in. The main events will be held from June.4th to June.6th and the schedule is as follows:
·On June.4th (Thursday), we will hold a workshop on Green City and Sustainable Transportation,ProSPER.Net Forum on Sustainability in Higher Education, “Green Life Style”presentation, “Should cities control the increasing number of private cars?”debate and discussion on Global Youth Tongji Declaration. Meanwhile, there willalso be an International Conference on City Science-New architectures,infrastructures and service as well as a Report on Sustainable Development Projectsin universities.
·June.5th (Friday) will be the climax of the whole conference. On that day, attendees canparticipate in “Ecosystem and Climate change” presentation, “Should thegovernment subsidizes new energy or not?” debate, the opening ceremony of theexhibition ”City and Nature—Youth Involvement in Sustainable Development” andthe summit. They will also listen to the keynote speeches, watch the trailer ofThe Mission Blue film as well as join the World Environment Day special event,awarding ceremony of students’ scholarship and the “City and Nature” dialogue.There will be side events, including the second part of the InternationalConference and International Symposium of Eco Urban Design, too.
·On June.6th (Saturday), there will be “SustainableDevelopment and UN” presentation, “UN upgrading MDG to SDG, pro or con?” debateand “High-dense vs. low dense urban development ” debate. The side event willbe the second part of the International Symposium of Eco Urban Design. Afterthat will come the closing ceremony, awarding ceremony for the Best Posters andBest Debaters, and the Culture Night/farewell dinner.
