On June 6th, 2016, the "Sustainable production and consumption: promoting youth participation in sustainable development" exhibition commenced at 11 a.m. in the hall of the Zonghe Building, Siping Road campus, Tongji University. Prof. Yang Xianjin, leader of the Tongji University and Dr. Monika G MacDevette, Deputy Director, Division of Environmental Policy Implementation, UNEP, made commencement speeches.
Prof. Yang Xianjin said, “Environment and sustainable development issues are closely related to us, and it is a fundamental way to realize sustainable development. Over the years, with the strategy of sustainable development, Tongji University put remarkable efforts into education for sustainable development, construction of a conservation-oriented campus and technology research on promoting sustainable development. We will also continue promoting the sustainable development together with all sector of the society. Dedication to promoting sustainable development should be a universal consensus, and it will bring human beings a brighter future.”
Dr. Monika G MacDevette said, the UN Environment Assembly just conclude in Nairobi last month, and it marks another start for a long-lasting mission. A key factor to promote environmental protection and sustainable development is awareness raising, communications and sharing of best practices, and this exhibition provides a platform for the youth to showcase researches.

Being an important part of the 2016 International Conference on environmental and sustainable development, the exhibition provides an opportunity for sharing and communication for not only the youth coming from more than 30 countries and organizations around the globe, but also the institutions, NGOs and companies committed to sustainable development. At the same time, the exhibition will inspire the young generation to participate in sustainable development projects.
