TheAsia-Pacific Leadership Programme on Environment for Sustainable Development(APLP) is an annual flagship programme co-hosted by United Nations EnvironmentProgramme (UNEP) and Tongji University, aiming to build capacity for emergingleaders from the Asia Pacific region on holistic sustainability thinking andevidence based approaches for effective action. The Leadership Programme isorganized by the UNEP-Tongji Institute of Environment for SustainableDevelopment (IESD) at Tongji University, in support of the UN Decade ofEducation for Sustainable Development, and closely linked with the trainingpillar of the Global Universities Partnership on Environment and Sustainability(GUPES).

This year is the 13thyear of the programme. Since 2004, more than 300 emerging leaders from 42countries and organizations have benefited from this annual leadershipprogramme at IESD, of which more than 30 countries are from the Asia-Pacific.The leadership programme has also attracted participants from North America,Africa, Europe and who have shared experiences.

Thetheme of the 2016 programme will be ‘Ecosystems Management and SustainanleDevelopment’. A programme outlines the ways in which participants will beexposed to issues related to understanding and balancing three key dimensions –human, environmental and social/economic – in promoting sustainable development.

Thefield trip to some land marks representing Shanghai’s urbanization process isour special event, where participants will experience the advanced conceptsused in modern urban planning, realizing the harmonious development between urbanizationand ecosystem.
