23February 2018, Singapore/Shanghai – For the first time, young people from Asia Pacific will articulate criticalscientific data on the state of the environment in the region in a way that resonateswith their peers. Twelve young people met in Singapore this week to kick-offpreparations for a lighter and youth-oriented version of the UN EnvironmentRegional Assessment for Asia Pacific. First Authors’ Meeting of GEO-6 forYouth, Asia-Pacific was held in parallel to the 4th Authors’ Meeting of GEO-6global assessment in Singapore from 19 to 23 Feb 2018.
Tongji University participates in this youth report asa main partner. Prof. Fengting LI, Deputy Dean of UN Environment-TongjiInstitute of Environment for Sustainable Development attended the firstauthors’ meeting of GEO-6 for Youth, Asia-Pacific on behalf of TongjiUniversity. Prof. Ying WANG from Tongji works as coordinating lead author inthe report and she is also a GEO Fellow who’s already supporting the on-goingglobal GEO-6 process. The Second Authors’ Meeting of GEO-6 for Youth,Asia-Pacific would be hosted by Tongji University in Shanghai in parallel toInternational Student Conference on Environment and Sustainability, June 2018.
The Asia Pacific assessment is one of five regional reports on thehealth of the environment that will feed into the 6th GlobalEnvironment Outlook. The youth version of the Asia Pacific assessment, slatedfor release at the end of this year, will include the latest information andupdated data on the findings of the report, and priority and emerging issues inthe region.
