New York, May 2nd, 2018 - First Scoping Meeting of UN Global Science-Policy-Business Forum on the Environment was held at United Nations Headquarters in New York on May 2nd, 2018. The forum's main topic included science and technology innovation, current development of and supportive policies for the market of green technology, green finance, etc.
Prof. Li Fengting, Deputy Dean of UN Environment-Tongji Institute of Environment for Sustainable Development and Vice Dean of College of Environmental Science and Engineering of Tongji University, was invited to host the "China’s Green Technology" session. He also delivered a report titled "Green Is Gold - Application of Green Tech in Environmental Protection Industry and Policies, Current Development and Prospect for Green Tech Market”.
Professor Li Fengting pointed out that green development is a multi-win situation based on the balance between the citizen’s lives quality, economic development and natural environment protection. Guided by the top-level design of the “Thirteenth Five-Year Plan”, China has launched an overall layout of development including environmental protection, energy saving and emission reduction and the “Green Belt and Road Initiative”. Combined with a subdivided industrial layout, China fully laid out the green development path and built a market-oriented green Innovation system while practicing the Green Is Gold theory. He also took water environmental protection technologies, which include sewage treatment, clean water, and river harnessing as an example, to illustrate the function of green technology in supporting a virtuous circle innovation. In his demonstration, innovation in green technologies leads to the development of the industry while policies support scientific and technological innovation, and businesses implement and therefore boost the application of technology.
This forum will provide a policy recommendation white paper for the Fourth United Nations Environment Assembly, which recommends integration of green technology, environmental Public-Private-Partnership, big/mega data for environmental protection and environmental monitoring into innovation process of global environmental governance.
