Geneva, Wednesday 29 August 2018 – 22 undergraduate and postgraduate students from 12 schools in Tongji University has started their first day in Palais des Nations in Geneva, Swizterland, for the first Tongji-UNITAR 2018 Leadership Programme of Young Talents for International Organizations, organized by Tongji University, United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), and IESD. Mr. Nikhil Seth, UN Assistant-Secretary General, and Executive Director of UNITAR, who has visited Tongji University earlier in March, warmly welcomed the delegation, shared his experience working in international organizations and the diplomatic area, and expressed his expectations and wishes to the students to participate more in the discussion of international issues and make a deeper understanding of UN affairs.
This training programme has led by the Vice Chairwoman of Environment Science and Engineering School Council, and Associate Prof. Wang Ying. In order to broaden participants’ horizon and equip them the competitiveness to work for international organizations, the one-week programme will cover expert lectures, UN on-going conferences and live debates, training workshops, as well as guided tours to UN headquarters, and social events.
