At the Re-Imagine Education 2016 International Conference, theAsia-Pacific Leadership Programme on Environment for Sustainable Development(APLP) was awarded the Silver Award for Sustainability by the QuacquarelliSymonds and Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

APPLICATION
TheAsia-Pacific Leadership Programme on Environment for Sustainable Development isan annual flagship programme co-hosted by United Nations Environment Programme(UN Environment) and Tongji University, aiming to build capacity for emergingleaders from the Asia Pacific region on holistic sustainability thinking andevidence based approaches for effective action. The Leadership Programme is organized by UN Environment-Tongji Instituteof Environment for Sustainable Development (IESD) at Tongji University, closelylinked with the training pillar of the Global Universities Partnership onEnvironment and Sustainability (GUPES). The Leadership Programme supports the implementation of Goal 4 of the SustainableDevelopment Goals (SDGs) in the 2030 Agenda – Ensure inclusive and equitablequality education and promote lifelong learning opportunity for all.
TheLeadership Programme is designed as a collaborative effort between RegionalUniversity Consortium on Environment and Sustainability (RUC) members, whichincludes University of New South Wales, Griffith University and WollongongUniversity from Australia, the School of Forestry and Environmental Studies ofYale University in the US, the United Nations University, the Asian Instituteof Technology in Thailand, Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, withTongji University taking the lead.
Since2004, over 400 emerging leaders from 45 countries and organizations havebenefited from this annual leadership program at IESD, of which more than 30countries are from the Asia-Pacific. The leadership program has also attractedparticipants from other regions, such as North America, Africa, and Europe, whoare keen to learn more about the dynamic Asia Pacific region.
Aims:
The Leadership Programme will provideparticipants from the Asia Pacific region an opportunity to:
a) Improve all-round thinking anddecision-making abilities of emerging leaders, representing governmentalorganizations, international organizations, NGOs and the private sector, etc.;
b) Understand and balance three keydimensions – human, environmental and social/economic – in promotingsustainable development;
c) Set up a platform for emergingleaders in the Asia-Pacific region to communicate and network amongst eachother while working together to address complex practical sustainabledevelopment challenges.
Selection Criteria:
Participants will be selected on the basis oftheir completed applications, according to the following criteria:
a) An advanced understanding ofsustainability and its relevance for their research and/or work;
b) Demonstrated leadership ability towork in a team environment and contribute to sustainable development activities;
c) High level of understanding ofwritten and spoken English.
d) Mid-to-senior government andinstitutional policy makers, non-governmental organization managers andleaders, business professionals, entrepreneurs and experienced journalists arepreferred.
e) Minimum work experience of 5 years ispreferred.
Applications:
Applications are open for those affiliatedwith government agencies, international organizations, NGOs as well as theprivate sector from across the Asia-Pacific region. Applicants should possess withdemonstrated leadership potential, and prior experience on sustainabilityand/or development issues.

b) UpdatedRésumé/Curriculum Vitae,highlighting the educational qualifications, English language capacity andwork experience, especially in the field of environment and sustainabledevelopment.
c) Letterof Recommendation: One Letter of Recommendation fromeither an academic or a professional referee who can testify the applicant’s strengthsand experiences, relevant to sustainable development.
Fellowship support:
Applicants from developing countries in needof financial support should provide specific justifications for full orpartial financial support. Fellowship support will be based on the completedapplication form and supplementary materials submitted.
