Symposium “Integrated Best Available Wastewater Management in the Textile Sector...
Published:08/11/2019
Apart from cotton cultivation and the production of dyestuffs and optical brighteners, textile finishing – also called textile wet processing – is one of the environmental hotspots. Practically all inorganic and most of the organic (more than 90 %) chemical compounds are discharged with wastewater, making it the dominating emission mass stream from textile finishing. Given these environmental problems and the increasing global water scarcity, need to avoid, reduce or recycle textile wastewater is of greatest importance.

The symposium “Integrated Best Available Wastewater Management in the Textile Sector” will focus on the problems outlined above and discuss available solutions. Special attention will be given to the topics of careful consumption of resources, minimization of water usage, energy efficiency, and international standards and knowledge exchange.

The Symposium is organised by the Partnership for Sustainable Textiles, the University of Stuttgart/Germany, the Tongji University Shanghai, TÜV Rheinland and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH.

The target audience of the symposium are academics as well as interested representatives from textile finishing industries, retailers, brands and authorities from national, regional and local level.
