2025 Global Environment Solutions Challenge (GESC) is now open for registration! Co-organized by Tongji University, UNEP-Tongji Institute of Environment for Sustainable Development, and the Executive Committee of the Demonstration Zone of Green and Integrated Ecological Development of the Yangtze River Delta, the challenge invites university students worldwide to propose innovative solutions to plastic pollution.
Registration Deadline: April 15, 2025 (Participants) | June 8, 2025 (Observers)
Format: First round online; Semi-finals & finals held during the 14th International Student Conference on Environment and Sustainability (ISCES) in Shanghai
Awards: Up to 4,200 USD including prize and travel scholarships for semi-finalists
Climate Action – Addressing the link between plastic pollution and climate change
Health Guardians – Mitigating human health impacts of plastic waste
Zero-Waste Cities – Reducing plastic waste and enhancing recycling in urban settings
Automotive & Electronics Plastic Recycling – Innovations in design and recycling processes
Students can form teams of 2-4 members and choose one topic. The competition follows a first-come, first-served rule, with a maximum of 100 teams per topic.
