On June 14, 2025, the "2025 International Training Program on Green and Low-Carbon Technologies (Shanghai Session)" (hereinafter referred to as the "Training Program"), jointly organized by the Shanghai Science and Technology Exchange Center and Tongji University under the guidance of the Department of International Cooperation of the Ministry of Science and Technology of China, officially opened at the College of Environmental Science and Engineering of Tongji University.
The opening ceremony was attended and addressed by Duan Xiaoyang, Director of the Shanghai Science and Technology Exchange Center; Xu Bin, Party Secretary of the College of Environmental Science and Engineering of Tongji University; and Zhou Yuanyuan, Deputy Director of the Shanghai Science and Technology Exchange Center. Representatives from the Shanghai Science and Technology Exchange Center, the College of Environmental Science and Engineering of Tongji University, and the UNEP-Tongji Institute of Environment for Sustainable Development also participated. The ceremony was hosted by Wang Ying, Deputy Dean of the College of Environmental Science and Engineering and Deputy Dean of the UNEP-Tongji Institute.
In his speech, Duan Xiaoyang stated that Shanghai has actively responded to the Ministry of Science and Technology's initiatives on technology training programs for developing countries. He expressed hope that participants would gain deep insights into the cutting-edge trends in green and low-carbon technologies through lectures, field visits, and case exchanges, and explore sustainable development paths tailored to their national contexts.
Xu Bin warmly welcomed the participants, emphasizing that green and low-carbon development is a crucial pathway toward achieving global sustainability. He noted that Tongji University has a long-standing tradition in environmental disciplines and a solid foundation in international cooperation, especially under the Belt and Road Initiative, where fruitful achievements have been made. He expressed hope that the training program would become a new starting point for international cooperation in green and low-carbon technology.
Zhou Yuanyuan gave a detailed overview of the program’s curriculum and important reminders. She conveyed her best wishes for a fulfilling learning and living experience in Shanghai. She highlighted that the training program, as a key initiative of the Belt and Road Low-Carbon Technology Innovation Cooperation Alliance, has attracted 22 participants from 11 countries along the Belt and Road. The program is dedicated to promoting international exchange and cooperation in low-carbon technologies and to cultivating professionals with a global vision. The curriculum covers topics such as green and low-carbon technology pathways and the application of technologies in multiple scenarios. It aims to establish dialogue mechanisms and long-term collaboration frameworks, enabling the sharing of technologies, results, talent, and industrial resources. Through replicable and scalable models, the program seeks to facilitate the implementation of influential, demonstrative, and representative projects.
From June 11 to 12, 2025, the Second Belt and Road Conference on Science and Technology Exchange was successfully held in Chengdu. During the conference, the Belt and Road Low-Carbon Technology Innovation Cooperation Alliance was officially launched. The Alliance aims to build a communication platform, create a collaborative innovation network, promote the demonstration and application of low-carbon technologies, and strengthen capacity building.
As a key initiative under the Alliance, the “International Training Program on Green and Low-Carbon Technologies” aspires to establish an inclusive cooperation network, accelerate the sharing and dissemination of technological achievements, and support the green transition and sustainable development of Belt and Road countries. The Chengdu session of the program has already concluded successfully.
