On June 24, Professor Chu Jian, Fellow of the Singapore Academy of Engineering and Dean of the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore, led a delegation to visit Tongji University. Professor Wang Zhiwei, Dean of the College of Environmental Science and Engineering, attended the meeting along with Professor Wang Ying, Associate Dean, faculty representatives from the College, and representatives from the UNEP-Tongji Institute of Environment for Sustainable Development (IESD).
Professor Wang Zhiwei warmly welcomed the delegation led by Professor Chu Jian. He reviewed the longstanding collaboration between Tongji University and NTU, highlighting the multi-level cooperation established over the years, including inter-college partnerships, point-to-point academic exchanges, and joint student training programs. Professor Wang expressed his hope to build on the existing "Tongji University–NTU 3+1+1 Joint Training Program" (hereafter referred to as the “3+1+1 Program”) to further promote pragmatic cooperation and achieve more substantial outcomes.
Professor Chu Jian expressed his appreciation for the warm reception. He spoke highly of the achievements made in youth talent exchange and scientific research collaboration, noting that these laid a solid foundation for deepening future cooperation. He emphasized that the purpose of this visit was to advance collaboration in key areas of environmental engineering, such as water treatment and solid waste resource utilization.
Professor Wang Ying gave a detailed introduction on the latest progress in the collaboration between the two universities. She particularly mentioned that the cooperation agreement for the 3+1+1 Program was officially signed in 2024, and student recruitment for the program began in March this year.
After the meeting, representatives from both sides took a group photo to commemorate the visit.
Nanyang Technological University is a world-class research-intensive university, currently ranked 15th globally and among the top three in Asia in the latest QS World University Rankings. Its Environmental Science discipline ranks 14th worldwide. Looking ahead, the two universities will continue to deepen their collaborative development in high-quality research and talent cultivation.
