On September 30, 2025, Dr. Huang Jingbo, Director of the United Nations University Institute in Macau (UNU Macau), visited the Institute of Environment and Sustainable Development (IESD) at Tongji University for in-depth discussions on collaboration with UN agencies, talent development, and scientific research cooperation. The meeting was attended by Yin Wen, Director of the Tongji University Office of International Affairs, Professor Wang Ying, Vice Dean of the College of Environmental Science and Engineering and Vice Dean of IESD, along with other faculty representatives.
Director Yin Wen extended a warm welcome to Director Huang Jingbo and his delegation. She provided an overview of Tongji University, including its fundamental characteristics, educational strengths, international cooperation strategy and overall framework, philosophy on cultivating global talents, as well as the university’s vision for high-level international talent development and prospective collaboration with the United Nations University. Vice Dean Wang Ying elaborated on the college’s development history, its existing cooperation framework with UN agencies, and the foundation and proposed work plan for future collaboration with the United Nations University.
Director Huang Jingbo spoke highly of Tongji University’s achievements in international exchange and global talent cultivation. He expressed his expectation that the United Nations University and Tongji could engage in cooperative exchanges across various aspects, including talent development models, teaching practices, and internship opportunities. Both sides conducted thorough discussions on potential future collaboration, covering areas such as international talent training mechanisms involving Tongji University and UN agencies, as well as platforms for international scientific research cooperation.
In addition, drawing on his own experience and background working in international organizations, Director Huang Jingbo delivered a special seminar entitled "Entering the United Nations — Exploring Career Development Paths in International Organizations" for Tongji students. The seminar attracted participants from various schools across the university. Director Huang provided detailed insights addressing students’ key concerns, with discussions focusing on the United Nations University application process, its research framework, and the core competencies required for UN civil servants. The seminar featured a dynamic and interactive atmosphere, with active questioning from students and frequent applause throughout the session.
Director Huang Jingbo’s visit served as a significant opportunity for the institute to deepen its international engagement and expand its collaborative network within the UN system. It also contributed to Tongji University’s ongoing efforts to align with high-quality international educational resources and refine its system for cultivating talents with global competence.
