Course Description
Sustainable Development: Connotation, Evolution and Practice in China
Sustainable Development is a new concept introduced in the 1980s as a response to the world's growing social and environmental problems as opposed to traditional development models, and is an important symbol of the deepening of human understanding of development.
17 United Nations Development Goals
The concept of sustainable development was first articulated by the World Commission on Environment and Development in 1987 in the report Our Common Future. According to the report, sustainable development means meeting the needs of the present generation without compromising the needs of future generations. In the face of the social and climatic problems caused by population growth, how can we balance the relationship between human society and nature at the macro level and what concrete actions should be taken to seek a development model that meets the needs of the present without jeopardising the ability of future generations to meet their needs.
Sustainable development means achieving development in the right areas while respecting both nature and human beings. It is about achieving economic goals as well as social responsibility and environmental protection. Following the path of sustainable development is an inevitable choice for China. Since the publication of China's Agenda 21, the overall strategy, countermeasures and action plans for the implementation of sustainable development in China have been clearly set out. To this day, the practice of sustainable development in China remains at the forefront of our mission.
