2020 Opening Ceremony of Tongji University Degree Program on Environment

The opening ceremony of the 2020 International Degree Program on Environmental Management and Sustainable Development was successfully held on 15th September, 2020. This year is destined to be an extraordinary year. Due to the pandemic, this ceremony was held by combining online and offline meeting initially. Prof. LI Fengting, Deputy Executive Dean, UNEP -Tongji Institute of Environment for Sustainable Development (IESD) and Deputy Dean, College of Environmental Science and Engineering of Tongji University, gave a welcome speech. He sent his best wishes to 2020 international students on a joyful and rewarding stay in Shanghai, so as to contribute more effort to the world.

 

Prof. GUO Ru, College of Environmental Science and Engineering, Tongji University also attended the opening ceremony. Prof. GUO used one Chinese old saying ”where there is a will, there is a way”, encouraging students to take advantage of studying in China and make the life dream come true.

Mulma Faith Ndila, 2019 outstanding student representative, and Md Sahidul Islam, 2020 Student representative, expressed expectations on a bright future of environment and put forward their own perspectives toward learning and living life of this new semester respectively.

Remarks from student representatives



Since 2006, 398 international students from 90 developing countries have participated in the international degree program on environmental management and sustainable development of Tongji University. In 2020, the program enrolled 32 students, including 10 Chinese students and 22 international students. The degree program currently consists of two majors, environmental management and sustainable development and environmental engineering, with students from Asia, Africa, South America and Europe.

 

IESD has established an advanced international education model to train high-level technical talents for One Belt And One Road countries in the field of environment and sustainable development, as well as inter-disciplinary technical management talents required by the government and enterprises.
