Since 2011, Tongji University and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) have jointly initiated the International Student Conference on Environment and Sustainability (ISCES). With strong support from the Agricultural Bank of China Shanghai Branch, the Beijing Green Future Environment Foundation, Xinhua News Agency, and other partners, the conference has been successfully held for fourteen consecutive sessions. Each year around World Environment Day, it brings together over a thousand young students from more than 60 countries at Tongji University to deepen exchanges and spark ideas on critical issues such as global environmental governance, green transition, and sustainable development.
Through fifteen years of dedicated effort and continuous innovation, ISCES has grown into a vital international platform focused on sustainable development and youth leadership. It offers young people from around the world a stage to share perspectives, exchange ideas, and inspire innovation. By fostering cross-disciplinary and cross-regional collaboration, the conference provides students committed to environmental protection and sustainable development with valuable opportunities for international exchange, learning, and practice. Today, it stands as one of the most influential and widely attended youth sustainability summits in the world.
The 15th International Student Conference on Environment and Sustainability will be held in early June 2026 at Tongji University in Shanghai. Centered on the defining themes of climate action and sustainable development, this edition will feature a series of engaging events, including the Global Environment Solutions Challenge, a Cultural Night, an exhibition of participant works, and the Award Ceremony. Young talents and experts from around the globe will gather at Tongji to empower environmental governance with youth leadership and shape a sustainable future with global vision—joining hands to contribute wisdom and strength to building a better planet for all.
